What a busy year we have had at ReNue. Some time off after our busiest December ever has allowed to me to do some reflecting on the last year and what 2016 might have in store. More importantly it allows me time to think about the many things that I am truly thankful for.
There are four things that I am extremely thankful for.
- My family. The support from my wife and how she keeps my life and our kids lives organized is the only reason that I can focus on all the amazing things we do ReNue. I am at my best when I know my kids are safe and being cared for by their amazing mother. I don’t think enough credit goes to the spouses of small business owners. I believe we can only succeed when our home life is successful. Otherwise the personal sacrifices and devotion I have to the business just wouldn’t be worth it.
- Our patients. This may seem self evident but without those patients that have been with us for ten years and the many more new ones that we have met this year we could not exist. We were one of the fastest growing companies in Alberta last year and I can’t thank you enough. I have been asked by several people why we use the term “patient.” Why not “client” or “customer” or some other term. I always answer that we are a medical aesthetic clinic. We cannot ever forget that we need to care for people in the same manner that we would in any medical practice under the oath that I took when I first became a doctor in 1996. In fact, this concept of caring is written into our Core Values. Calling someone a client or customer might be fine at a grocery store or realtors office but we always strive to do better.
- My staff. I cannot stay enough about our staff. They work tirelessly to create a great patient experience. They work tirelessly to keep learning and growing and up to date in their skill set. They work tirelessly and make it so fun to come to the three locations each day. We have very little staff turn over at ReNue. This is mostly because of the great culture we have created as a team. We live and breath making peoples lives better.
- My health. As a wise person once said….If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. As a physician this is obviously very personal to me. I am addicted to caring for people. I love making people feel better and feel better about themselves. It is my passion and if I have a day in which I don’t feel I have done this, it is simply not a successful day. I think part of life-balance is giving one the permission to take care of themselves. Everyone deserves this.
Please spend some time on yourself in 2016. It is always a great investment. Happy New Year!
