Addressing Facial Asymmetry Without Surgery

Facial asymmetry: it’s not as uncommon as you might think. While surgery has long been the go-to solution for uneven features, there are significant opportunities for nonsurgical management of facial asymmetry through the use of JUVÉDERM® and BOTOX COSMETIC®. At my Downtown Calgary, Airdrie, and Seton med spa locations, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this approach can be. A Case Study in Asymmetry I saw the most beautiful customer last week. Truly, I mean she was a beautiful person inside and out. Unfortunately, she had viral nerve damage similar to Bell’s palsy some years back. Much of the nerve recovered, but she was left … Continue Reading

The Problem with Politeness

This might be a blog more about friends and difficult conversation than medical aesthetics, but here goes.  I was at a talk given by a famous childhood psychologist a few years back and I remember one comment he made that stuck with me.  It went something like this. “The down fall of Canadian parenting is rooted in traditional British politeness.” This was of course coming from an Italian psychologist!  His point was that we are often too polite for our own good.  Kids understand direct, “un-polite,” commands from parents that are not laced with too many pleases and thank yous.  … Continue Reading

Wanna Feel Less Tired?

I don’t know about you, but one of the most annoying things a person can say to me is… ”you look tired.”  I might be having the best day ever and on top of the world and all of a sudden, I feel more tired.  My energy goes down and I want to go rest.  The thing is that a look of tiredness is not even your fault.  As humans we often perceive tiredness by a heaviness in the eyes and dark circles or bags under the eyes.   This tends to be genetic.  Of course, it is made worse by … Continue Reading

How Much Does It Cost to Turn Back the Clock?

It has taken me a long time to understand how to inject the face properly and I am still learning. The point is, that is has taken me 16 years to become one of the best injectors of facial filler across Canada.  16 years…. Don’t assume that whomever is injecting your facial filler knows what they are doing. Many injectors do not or will not have an honest discussion about how much filler it takes to give you the results you want. I touched on this in previous blogs about important questions to ask your injector.  This is an art, this … Continue Reading

Want to Look Less Saggy?

Want to Look Less Saggy? The whole ReNue injector team was in Toronto this past week learning from one of the masters of medical aesthetics from Brazil, Dr. Mauricio De Maio. If there is such a thing as a guru in the medical aesthetics world, he is one.  The training reminded me of the topic of volume loss in the face and how much we have changed our approach to how the face ages over the last few years. Jowels, sagginess, heavy face, and drooping are all terms that many patients over the age of 50 start to connect with.  They … Continue Reading
