Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers ModelAs we age, natural components of the skin such as collagen break down. This causes wrinkles, sagging and loss of volume in the skin. Dermal fillers help restore volume and fullness to the skin and help correct moderate to severe wrinkles. We also offer JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ to add volume to the cheeks.

To learn more about dermal fillers, request a consultation at our downtown Calgary or Seton clinic, or Airdrie medspa. Or call us at 403-454-1244 (Calgary) or 403-945-0350 (Airdrie) or 403-523-1091 (Seton) and one of our helpful staff members will schedule your appointment.

About Dermal Fillers

At ReNue we are highly skilled at restoring or adding volume to the lips, cheeks, nasolabial lines (lines on the side of nose extending to the lips) and marionette lines (around the outer corners of the mouth). We can inject fillers above the upper lip to diminish the look of deep wrinkles and around the jaw line for a more contoured, firmer-looking face. For maximum effect we suggest combining your filler treatment at our Calgary, Seton, or Airdrie clinics wrinkle smoothing injectable treatments.

We use a number of different fillers at ReNue. All are non-animal based agents. Most are gels that are made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which is similar to the hyaluronic acid that our bodies naturally produce. Unlike collagen-based products, these filling agents do not require skin testing for possible sensitivity reactions. Filling agents typically last 9 to 12 months depending on the product used, mobility of the area injected and the depth of line and amount of volume required. In addition to these options, we also feature platelet-rich plasma (PRP) skin rejuvenation treatments, which enhance your skin's health by stimulating collagen growth. Known as a "vampire facelift" when combined with wrinkle correction, PRP therapy can dramatically improve your skin's health and beauty, although patient experiences vary.

Soft Lift™

The Soft Lift combines the benefits of wrinkle correction and filling agents such as JUVÉDERM to simultaneously address multiple signs of aging. This produces an overall refreshed and rejuvenated appearance without the downtime and other drawbacks associated with surgery. The Soft Lift can smooth deep wrinkles, restore lost volume and enhance facial contours in just one treatment session, for a look that is balanced, subtle and entirely natural looking. Your results may vary.

Common Questions

How do fillers differ from wrinkle-smoothing injectables?

Although both products are injected into the skin in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, the ways they work are quite different. Filling agents use a gel containing an active ingredient, often hyaluronic acid, to physically fill in wrinkles from beneath the skin, adding volume and thereby reducing their appearance. Wrinkle-smoothing injectables are in a class of drugs called neurotoxins that actually relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

How do I choose the right filler for me?

Each filling agent has its own indications, making certain products better suited to certain areas of the face than others. For example, JUVÉDERM is useful for Calgary-area men and women who wish to fade lines around their noses and mouths. Other products may be better for filling in the cheeks or the furrows beneath the eyes. During your consultation, Dr. McWhirter evaluates your areas of concern to determine which product (or combination of products) is likely to give you the best results.

How does a treatment with a filling agent feel?

A treatment with filling agents is typically quick and comfortable. Dr. McWhirter administers a series of injections, each lasting only a moment. Many injectables today are formulated with an anesthetic to enhance your comfort. The injections typically feel like a quick pinch. After treatment, you may experience some localized tenderness or soreness at the injection sites, but not likely enough to interfere with your usual activities. You may return to your regular routine immediately following your appointment.
