Microneedling

Print This Page   Email this Page

One of the many reasons why skin is so amazing is that it has the ability to heal and improve itself. Microneedling in our Calgary, Seton and Airdrie clinics helps accelerate the regenerative process, unlocking your skin's capacity for healing and fading the look of many common complaints.

The Basics of Microneedling

Clinical microneedling uses a device that contains many small, sterile "micro-needles." These needles penetrate the skin at a controlled depth, typically several millimeters. These penetrations are actually controlled injuries that signal the skin to begin creating more collagen to heal itself. Microneedling is an excellent choice for reducing the appearance of the following:

  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven texture
  • Mild laxity, especially around the jawline
  • Enlarged pores

Each of these conditions can be effectively managed by the increased collagen development stimulated by microneedling. For other conditions, a different resurfacing treatment such as cosmetic laser rejuvenation or chemical peel may be more appropriate. Although microneedling is great on its own, it also pairs perfectly with PRP to enhance the effects of collagen production. This combination of treatments is known as a "Vampire Facial."

Your Experience

We offer microneedling at each of our locations. Your microneedling experience begins with the application of a light topical anesthetic to keep your skin comfortable during the treatment.

Your provider glides the microneedling handpiece across your treatment area---usually your face, neck, or chest. The needles quickly penetrate the skin. The length of the treatment depends on the area you're treating, but most patients are in the clinic for about 1 hour. After the microneedling process is complete, your provider may apply a topical skin care product to take advantage of the channels created by the microneedling device. These channels allow the active ingredients in skin care products to deeply penetrate skin.

To maximize your results, we typically recommend a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. In the long term, your results can last for more than a year.
