About "Vampire Facelift"

We offer PRP skin care in Calgary and Seton using RegenPlasma, regenerative medicine that works with your body to restore your skin from within. This meticulously designed product has been shown to be highly effective for aesthetic purposes. This treatment is called the "vampire facelift" because it uses your own platelets, separated from your red blood cells, to naturally improve your skin's health and appearance. To complete your "vampire facelift," we use injectable wrinkle correction to smooth eye and forehead area wrinkles.

The "vampire facelift" is particularly effective for concerns such as facial creases, wrinkles, sun damage and lines, resulting in smooth, evenly toned and textured skin that looks and feels younger. During your PRP session, Dr. McWhirter carefully treats your skin based on a procedure plan targeted to your cosmetic goals. For example, if you are concerned with wrinkles, lines, and creases in your face, he will focus on those areas. Dr. McWhirter also uses this treatment for acne scars and other superficial scars. PRP therapy can be used to treat almost any area of your body, including your face, chest, neck, and hands.

Benefits for Different Conditions

Among the conditions that can benefit from a "vampire facelift" with PRP therapy and wrinkle correction are:

  • Nasolabial folds and other facial creases
  • Acne scars and other superficial scars
  • Wrinkles, fine lines, under-eye hollows, and loss of volume in the cheeks that can contribute to a tired or aged appearance
  • Aging, wrinkled skin on areas such as the chest, neck and hands

PRP therapy utilizes enriched plasma to provide an optimal treatment for patients with varying skin types and cosmetic goals. Because this treatment stimulates collagen, the improvement occurs gradually and subtly, enhancing your skin's health naturally and beautifully.

What's special about this treatment: it utilizes your own blood to restore and repair both the surface and deeper layers of your skin. The unique technology harnesses a high concentration of your own cells, releasing them to improve your skin's health and beauty. By stimulating the structural integrity of your skin, this procedure naturally, safely, and effectively encourages new tissue and collagen growth. As a result, the "vampire facelift" methodology also can be used to dramatically rejuvenate your neck, chest, hands, and superficial scars; your results may vary.

When PRP is combined with injectable wrinkle correction to smooth away frown lines, crow's feet, and other signs of aging, the "vampire facelift" can provide a complete rejuvenation that helps you look naturally younger and beautiful.

Most patients enjoy some noticeable improvements in their skin's texture and tone within 4 to 6 weeks, and the benefits typically increase for up to a year. Your results may vary.

Your Treatment

A "vampire facelift" combines two highly effective treatments: PRP therapy and injectable wrinkle correction. PRP therapy is a simple procedure that involves extracting a small sample of your blood. After separating the red blood cells from the blood platelets, Dr. McWhirter then injects the enriched platelets into the targeted areas, such as your facial lines, creases, and wrinkles. To diminish fine lines on the forehead and other types of dynamic wrinkles, he then injects wrinkle correction.

Depending on your skin concerns and cosmetic goals, Dr. McWhirter may recommend 1 to 3 PRP treatments separated 4 to 6 weeks apart. After just 1 treatment, however, most patients notice that their skin appears smoother, with wrinkles diminished for a younger looking appearance. The "vampire facelift" provides patients with healthier, glowing skin – with minimal downtime.

Common Questions

Am I a good candidate for PRP skin rejuvenation?
If you are looking for a natural alternative to facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers, or if you are not ready for facial plastic surgery, you may be a good candidate for this treatment.

What is recovery like after a "vampire facelift"?
Patients typically have mild redness and swelling in treated areas for the first 24 to 48 hours. While you probably won't need to take time off from work, we recommend avoiding strenuous activities for approximately 48 hours after treatment.

What can I do to get the best results?
To allow your body to take full advantage of the plasma's regenerating benefits, we recommend abstaining from a few things, beginning 1 week before your treatment and ending 2 weeks after you come in:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Taking anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen)

Why does the "vampire facelift" combine PRP therapy with a wrinkle-smoothing injectable?
PRP therapy and injectable wrinkle treatments provide complementary results, so performing them together provides a more complete rejuvenation. PRP restores lost volume beneath the skin to fill in folds, lost volume, and wrinkles. Wrinkle correction smooths away facial wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, which typically do not respond well to PRP or dermal fillers.

Is PRP used with other treatments?
Yes. Because it offers similar benefits, PRP therapy can enhance the results of many other treatments, such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® and laser skin resurfacing. We also offer PRP hair rejuvenation treatments to treat early hair loss in women and men.

How long will my results last?
"Vampire facelift" results vary between patients but typically last 9 to 18 months and may be maintained with follow-up treatments as necessary.

Do I need to have allergy testing before treatment with PRP?
No. Because PRP uses your own plasma, there is no risk of allergic reaction.
